Facial treatments for men

The anatomy differs, and so does what most men ask for. What that changes about planning.

Perspective from Stone Surgical Arts

More men are asking about facial treatment, and the useful differences are anatomical rather than a matter of marketing.

A thought to keep

The common request is to look less tired rather than different. That is a planning instruction worth stating plainly.

01

What differs anatomically

Male skin is generally thicker, with a richer blood supply, and facial hair changes where incisions can be concealed and how skin is redraped. Brow position, jaw width and the pattern of fat differ as well.

These influence technique and planning. A procedure carried out without regard to them can produce a result that reads as feminised, which is usually the opposite of what was asked for.

02

What men usually ask for

The most common requests concern the eyes and the neck: looking tired when rested, heaviness of the upper lids, and loss of definition beneath the chin.

Alongside those sit hair restoration and skin treatment. The stated aim is very often to look like themselves on a good day rather than to look different.

03

Non-surgical considerations

Stronger facial musculature means dosing for botulinum toxin is often different, and a heavy hand produces an obviously treated look that most patients are specifically trying to avoid.

A conservative approach, reviewed and adjusted, is usually the better route for a first treatment.

04

At the consultation

Say plainly what you do not want as well as what you do. "I do not want anyone to be able to tell" is a legitimate and useful brief.

Ask to see results on men with a similar starting point, and be clear about how much downtime you can actually take.
